Reducing Plastic When Grocery Shopping
It’s not something we think about often as we shop through the grocery store, but pretty much every single thing you buy has some sort of plastic container. Plastic contains endocrine disrupting chemicals that leach into our food over time, through heat, or by breaking down from contact with oils. Unfortunately, we come in contact with these endocrine disrupting chemicals from many more sources too, not just plastic. When we are exposed to so many of over time, it can cause some major damage on overall hormone health. Not to mention the harmful environmental effects plastic has as well. That’s why I started to be a little more conscientious about limiting my personal use of plastic. Here are some ways you can do that.
Buy produce not individually wrapped and place in a cloth bag
Bring your own reusable bags
Look for items in glass instead of plastic (dressings, nut butters, jelly, soups, pasta sauce, single serve beverages, yogurt, etc.)
Go to the farmers market
Buy snack items in bulk instead of things individually wrapped
